EACH 10 ML SUCRALFATE-1000 MG & OXETACAINE-20 MG SYRUP

Sucralfate 1000 mg & Oxetacaine 20 mg syrup is a combination medication used primarily for the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis, acid reflux, and related gastrointestinal conditions. Here’s a detailed breakdown:

Composition & Mechanism of Action:

  1. Sucralfate (1000 mg)
    • Acts as a gastric mucosal protectant.
    • Forms a protective barrier over ulcers, promoting healing and preventing further damage from stomach acid and enzymes.
    • Inhibits pepsin activity and binds to bile salts, reducing irritation to the stomach lining.
  2. Oxetacaine (20 mg) (Oxythazaine)
    • A topical anesthetic that provides immediate pain relief by numbing the stomach lining.
    • Helps reduce burning sensation and discomfort associated with acid reflux and ulcers.

Indications (Uses):

  • Peptic ulcers (gastric & duodenal)
  • Gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining)
  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
  • Heartburn & acid indigestion
  • Stomach pain due to acid-related disorders

Dosage & Administration:

  • Usually 5-10 mL (1-2 teaspoons) 2-3 times a day, or as prescribed by a doctor.
  • Should be taken on an empty stomach (at least 1 hour before meals) for best effectiveness.
  • Avoid eating or drinking for at least 30 minutes after taking it.

Side Effects:

  • Constipation (common with sucralfate)
  • Nausea, vomiting
  • Dry mouth
  • Dizziness
  • Allergic reactions (rare)

Precautions & Warnings:

  • Not to be used in severe kidney disease (as sucralfate contains aluminum, which can accumulate in kidney failure).
  • Avoid taking antacids within 30 minutes before or after this syrup.
  • May interact with certain medications (e.g., quinolones, tetracyclines, digoxin, warfarin) by reducing their absorption.
